Kathmandu Valley Tour
It
is said that in Kathmandu there are
more gods than people. Wandering
through narrow streets hung with
dark intricately carved wooden
windows handcrafted by the Newari
people, you will encounter numerous
little alcoves that shelter statues
of gods adorned with red powder,
rice and marigolds. The medieval
cities of Bhaktapur, Patan and
Kathmandu are living museums, with
towering palaces, giant mythical
beasts made of stone, and doors of
beaten gold. Here people live in
much the same way that they have for
centuries, and are within view of
the magnificent temples atop the
foothills surrounding the valley.
Tibetan Buddhist communities thrive
around the Stupas (Buddhist temples)
at Boudhanath and Swayambunath,
where momos (dumplings) are the
favorite tasty treat. Local artisans
make Kathmandu a paradise for
collectors and shoppers alike, with
centuries old craft traditions. It
is said that the valley was once a
great lake until the god Manjushree
found it by the light of a huge
glowing lotus at its center. He
thought it would be a great place
for people to live, so he cut a
gorge that can still be seen at
Chobar, where some of the waters
remain. So today come explore the
Valley of the Gods with us
