Kunchanjunga
Trek - 22 Days
Kanchanjunga
Trek
means "the mountain of jewels" and
it is said that the famous sage Guru
Padmasambhava buried the treasures
of knowledge in this most beautiful
mountain. It is so revered by the
locals that the Lamas of Sikkim
dance in tribute once a year. A
22-day trek, it takes you to the
snowline through high pastures and
into the romance of the mountain
jewels. Much more than trek, it is a
journey of discovery. The
Kanchanjunga Range is possibly the
last unexplored region of Eastern
Nepal. Breathtaking views of the
vast Himalayan range can be seen
from the majority of the route's
trails.
Thick forests of rhododendron trees
in the lower region and yak grazing
the pastures at high altitudes
promise always to astonish. This is
a sparsely populated area with
mainly Sherpa, Limbu, Rai and Gurung
communities living here. The people
are not accustomed to receiving
tourists at their doorsteps and show
great hospitality. The wild flowers
are in full bloom during the months
of April and May, and clear views of
the mountains are also more likely
during this period.
