The
Kailash Jewel of snow' is a
scared site of both Hindus
and Buddhist. Many Pilgrims
from around the world each
year visit to pray in the
shadow of the most Holy of
Mountains. It also has been
a popular destination for
all adventure lovers. Mt. Kailash is flanked by two
neighbouring lakes
Mansarovar and Rakkshas Tal
(lake). They are the highest
bodies of fresh water in the
world, with Lake Manasarovar
(330 sq. km), at (4,558
meters), about fifteen
metres higher than Rakshas
Tal. It is believed by
Buddhist that Queen Maya
(Buddha's Mother) was
carried to Lake Manasarovar
by the gods for bath.
