Chitwan National Park
Located
beneath the Himalayan foothills, on
the Gangetic plain, the dense
jungles of Chitwan, abounding with
wildlife, seem to be something
straight from Rudyard Kipling's 'The
Jungle Book'. In fact, Chitwan, in
the flat Terai region of Nepal, was
a fabled hunting ground of British
Kings and Maharajas alike! Today
however, the wildlife is protected
in a National park and on an
Elephant Back Safari the only thing
you shoot from is a camera. Keep a
safe distance from the Rhinos,
Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Gaur,
Wild Pigs and Crocodiles as you pass
through jungles filled with various
species of deer, monkeys and over
400 different types of birds- the
finest wildlife experience in Asia!
If you are lucky you may see fresh
water Gangetic Dolphins along some
stretches of river, while a number
of small lakes provide interesting
viewing for Water Birds, and perhaps
a Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros
going for a drink. There are about
fifty different species of mammals
and at least 67 different types of
butterflies have been spotted. Don't
miss 'Elephant bath time'; say chop
to ask an Elephant for a trunk
shower- or jump in one of the many
great swimming holes instead!
